Does a spouse share the inheritance given to his/her husband or wife?

Video Transcription

Well, a spouse does not automatically share in the inheritance received by his or her husband, or wife. However, the problem arises once the person receiving the inheritance starts co-mingling assets or opening joint bank accounts, or taking those moneys and, essentially, using them jointly with the spouse. So, really, the main form of protection used to keep inherited assets segregated is trust planning, and that’s another of the major benefits of trust planning. Again, is keeping those inherited assets separate from the spouse of the person inheriting.
